This week at the EYC – July 19 through July 25

The EYC is bustling with activity at the peak of the summer season!  In addition to the normal weekly schedule of races, lessons, bridge, bunco, and just sailing around, here’s what’s happening:

EYC Explorers (ages 4 to 8) will meet at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 22 at the Peninsula State Park Nature Center, for the “Chief Kahquados Morning” to make an arrowhead necklace.  Parents or grandparents must accompany Explorers.  $1 donation recommended.  Questions?  Contact Explorers chairman Duska Pearson at (630) 975-4942.

The Amazing Race comes to the EYC Teen Activities on Thursday, July 22.  Meet at the EYC at 4:30 PM.  Wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes.  If you have a small digital camera, please bring it.  At the close of the event, dinner will be served at the Pearson home.  Pick up will be at the Pearsons’ at 7:30 PM, 2928 Valentine Lane in Ephraim.  There is no cost for this event.  Please sign up at the EYC by Wednesday, July 21st.  All EYC teens who have completed Seventh grade are welcome to attend.  Parents, to volunteer for this event, please contact Duska Pearson at (630) 975-4942.

This week’s Thursday Theater Night movie is “2012” at the Hooper home.  For more information see www.eyc.org/schedule

On the evening of Friday, July 23, EYC men (age 21 and older) are invited to gather on the EYC pier for a casual get-together.  (We thought:  EYC  women have bridge, Bunco, two First Mates coffees, the First Mates Pot Luck, and the Women’s Regatta, so why shouldn’t the men have at least one event of their own?)  Plan to arrive around 7 PM to watch the end of the FJ and Laser races.  We will pre-heat the grills and, as soon as the racers and other spectators are gone, we will barbecue and socialize.  BYO steaks or other items for the grill, adult beverages, and cigars, if you choose.  Although the EYC prohibits smoking anywhere on its grounds or in its clubhouse, at this event only, outdoor cigar smoking will be allowed.   Smokers are reminded to wait until all juniors and women have left the pier before smoking, respect non-smokers, and properly dispose of ashes and butts.

The Optimist Regatta is Sunday, July 25.  Registration begins at 9:00 AM; boat drawing for EYC-owned boats takes place at 9:45 AM; skippers meeting 10:00 AM; first race 11:00 AM.  Skippers remember:  Optimist class rules require you to have been born on or after January 1, 1995; and you must have a whistle attached with a lanyard to your PFD while racing.  To read the official Notice of Race, go to www.eyc.org/racing

The Flying Junior and Laser Races which were previously scheduled for Sunday, July 25 will be held instead on the afternoon of Saturday, July 24.  Boat draw for EYC-owned boats 1:15 PM; skippers meeting 1:30 PM; first race 2:00 PM.

The Ephraim Regatta is less than two weeks away!  EYC members who are qualified to use an EYC Flying Scot can participate in a lottery to skipper an EYC Flying Scot in the Regatta.  To enter, sign up on the sign-up sheet on the EYC bulletin board or send an e-mail to EYC Director Alex Zalar [email protected]   Caption your e-mail “Ephraim Regatta Boat Lottery Entry” and include your name.  Deadline for lottery entries is 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 28, and the drawing will take place immediately at that time at the EYC.  Members who draw one of the six EYC Flying Scots in the lottery are expected to enter and compete in the Regatta as skipper of that boat.
