Race at the EYC in 2011!

Racing at the EYC begins this Saturday, June 18.

The EYC hosts weekly races in four separate sailboat classes — Flying Scots, Flying Juniors, Lasers, and Optimists — during the summer season.

Racing is a lot of fun and is the best way for juniors and adults quickly to become a better sailor.

You don’t have to be an expert to race at the EYC.  In the Scot and FJ classes, you can crew for someone more experienced.  The EYC staff and EYC members are often looking for racing crew, so come down to the EYC, put up a note on our bulletin board, post on the EYC’s online classified ads, and get on a boat!

You don’t have to have your own boat in order to race.  You can crew on someone else’s boat, or sail on an EYC-owned boat.

You don’t even have to have your EYC Skipper’s License to skipper an EYC boat in an EYC series race, except in the Flying Scot series.

You don’t even have to be an EYC member to crew in an EYC race (though you must be an EYC member to skipper).  So, bring your non-member friends out on the racecourse!

This year the EYC has invested in all new sails for its FJs and Lasers, which will be used exclusively for racing, making EYC-owned boats more evenly matched.

Weekly races begin Saturday, June 18.  The weekly race schedule is:

Saturdays 9:30 AM:  Flying Scots

Saturdays  1:30 PM:  Optimists

Sundays 1:30 PM:  Flying Juniors and Lasers

Mondays 5:30 PM:  Flying Scots

Tuesdays 5:30 PM:  Optimists

Fridays 5:30 PM:  Flying Juniors and Lasers

(All times are skipper’s meeting times.  Races begin 1/2 hour later.  Drawing for EYC-owned boats is 15 minutes prior to the skipper’s meeting).
