Still Need a Few More Helpers for Saturday October 1

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

The EYC still needs a few more helpers to give a few minutes of their time at 4:30 P.M. on Saturday, October 1, on the project described below.  If you can help, please reply to this e-mail.

****************************************

EYC member Mike Callahan has generously offered to refurbish and paint an EYC Flying Scot.  Mike is an expert professional boatwright, so the EYC is looking forward to the “Milton” looking bright and new for 2012!

In order for Mike to begin his work, we need eight to ten strong persons to help flip the Milton upside down at 4:30 PM on Saturday, October 1 in Jacksonport.  IF YOU CAN BE THERE, PLEASE REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL.  The job will take less than ten minutes; beverages will be provided afterwards to soothe any aching muscles, or even if your muscles do not ache.

The refurbishment of the Milton is the next step in the EYC’s plan to create a culture of caring for the EYC’s shared boats and equipment.  Please help as we begin our project to make the EYC’s Flying Scots look good so that EYC members, staff and juniors have even more incentive to keep them that way!

Additional details will be provided to all volunteers.

House and Dock Fall Projects

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

The EYC’s hard-working House and Dock chairman, Rich Bierman, needs volunteers to help with some EYC projects.  If you can donate three to four hours of your time, please contact Rich at bierman4dc@gmail.com.  The projects will take place on mutually convenient dates in October.  Please help keep the EYC in tip-top shape!  A variety of beverages will be furnished to volunteers when finished.

Another Flying Scot Donated to the EYC

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

A big thank-you to longtime EYC members Lal and Pat Burridge, who donated their Flying Scot “Lal’s Single Malt” to the EYC, together with its sails and trailer.  This boat, in race-ready condition, greatly increases the overall quality of the EYC’s Flying Scot fleet.

Remember, because of its educational and amateur athletic mission, the EYC is qualified as a charity under Federal tax law, and therefore your donation is tax-deductible.  The EYC would be grateful for your donation of cash, appreciated securities, and equipment.  Among the items which the EYC would particularly like to receive are:

* Flying Scot, Optimist, Laser and 420 sailboats, and sails and equipment for them.
* Powerboats from 13 to 20 feet, suitable for use in the EYC’s lesson program.
* 4-stroke outboard motors.
* Shore Stations and similar boat lifts

The EYC will also gladly accept other boats and marine items in good condition which can be used in the EYC’s programs or sold to raise funds for the EYC.

And, remember the EYC in your will!

Upcoming Flying Scot Regattas

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Flying Scot Fleet 199 of the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club is hosting a Flying Scot regatta on September 10.  For more information and a copy of the Notice of Race, contact Fleet 199 captain Bill Draeb BillDraeb@yahoo.com

The Carlyle Sailing Association, near St. Louis, will host the Whale of a Sail / Egyptian Cup / Leukemia Cup regatta on September 17-18.  For more information and a copy of the Notice of Race, contact Felicia Bamer fbamer@sbcglobal.net.  Carlyle will host the 2012 Flying Scot North American Championship regatta, so this fall’s regatta is a good opportunity to gain a little advance local knowledge.

The EYC Needs Your Photos

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

If you have good photos of EYC people or events from 2011, please submit your photos to the EYC.  The EYC will post the photos in its public online photo archive at www.flickr.com/photos/ephraimyachtclub/collections.  Your photos may also be used in the Eagle’s Cry.

Do you think that would take too much time?  How about submitting just your three FAVORITE 2011 EYC photos?  We especially like good sailing action photos, and photos of EYC members and juniors having fun at various EYC events and activities.  We also like older photos scanned into digital format!

You can submit your photos by e-mail to dockside@eyc.org.  If you have too many photos to e-mail, contact dockside@eyc.org to learn alternative methods to submit your photos.

Please submit your photos!  We want to build an EYC photo archive which future generations can look back on with a smile!

Thanks to EYC Helpers!

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

A big thank you to all EYC members who helped out putting away boats and closing down the EYC clubhouse this morning.  We had lots of willing hands, so all the big projects got done, like taking apart and stowing boats, and removing the hanging piers.  A few smaller clubhouse projects remain to be completed.  If you are interested in helping with clubhouse projects, please contact House and Dock chairman Rich Bierman rbierman@wisconsinconverting.com

Again, thanks to those who helped:
