This Week at the EYC July 13-21

The EYC is settling into its summer groove.  In addition to all the weekly events which make the EYC such a great value, such as lessons, racing, daysailing, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, grilling, drinking, visiting with friends, bridge, bunco, four-square, and you name it, here’s what’s happening:

The EYC’s annual RICH HALL JUNIOR REGATTA takes place on Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14, in 420s and Laser Radials.  There is no registration fee.  This regatta is limited to ages 12-17.  EYC members can use an EYC-owned Laser Radial or 420 for free in this regatta.  There is no specific skill qualification or minimum lesson level requirement to skipper an EYC-owned boat in this regatta, but parents are asked to use good judgment in deciding whether their children are sufficiently experienced and of sufficient size and strength to compete, taking into account the boats used, and the expected weather.  The drawing for EYC-owned boats is at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 13, followed by registration and a 1:30 PM mandatory skippers meeting.  Races will begin around 2:15 PM.  Racing resumes at 9:00 AM on Sunday, July 14.  For more information see the Notice of Race at www.eyc.org/racing

MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO DRIVE SAFETY BOATS for the Rich Hall Junior Regatta.  You can volunteer for Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning, or both.  You would need to provide an appropriate boat, too.  To volunteer, e-mail [email protected]

Legendary sailor GARY JOBSON WILL VISIT THE EYC on Saturday, July 13.  We anticipate that Gary will say a few words at the skippers meeting of the Rich Hall Junior Regatta at 1:30 PM.  Gary will then be watching the Rich Hall races from the EYC pier, so if you want to meet Gary in person and chat with him, stop by the EYC from around 1:30 PM until around 3:00 PM.

Because of the Rich Hall Junior Regatta, the OPTIMIST RED FLEET (ages 12-15) races which would normally be held on the afternoon of Saturday, July 13 will not be held.  Optimist Red Fleet racers are encouraged instead to compete in the Rich Hall Junior Regatta.

The EYC’s gala DINNER WITH GARY JOBSON begins at 6:00 PM on Saturday, July 13 in a tent on the lawn at Alexander’s.  Pre-registration is required.  You cannot purchase admission at the door.  A few (very few!) registrations remain available at www.eycgaryjobson.eventbrite.com.  Bring your checkbook for quicker checkout when you win a silent auction item.  Partygoers are reminded:  DO NOT PARK IN ALEXANDER’S PARKING LOT.  PARK ONLY AT MINISTRY HEALTH CARE, IMMEDIATELY SOUTH OF ALEXANDERS.

Participants in the Rich Hall Junior Regatta and their parents are invited to a free PICNIC LUNCH AND AWARDS CEREMONY beginning around noon on Sunday, July 14.  The EYC will provide burgers, dogs and brats; BYO side dishes and beverages.

Because of the Rich Hall Junior Regatta, the OPTIMIST BLUE FLEET (age 11 and under) races which would normally be held on the morning of Sunday, July 14 will be held instead in the afternoon the same day.  The drawing for EYC members to use an EYC-owned Optimist will be at 1:00 PM and the first race is scheduled for 2:00 PM.

The DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR SESSION D JUNIOR SAILING LESSONS is noon on July 14.  Session D begins July 15 and runs through July 26.  For more information, and to enroll, go to www.eyc.org/lessons
