This week at the EYC August 9-17

The EYC’s peak summer season will end with a bang at the Commodore’s Party.  Besides all the regularly scheduled fun, here’s what’s happening this week:

The ANNUAL MEETING OF THE EYC’S MEMBERS begins at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 9 at the EYC. If you are a voting member, please try to attend so that we can have a quorum to elect four new members of the Board of Directors.  This is also another opportunity for you to give your input about what you want the EYC to be.

The FLYING SCOT RACES normally scheduled for the morning of Saturday, August 9 will be held instead on the morning of Sunday, August 10.  Boat draw 9:00 AM, first warning signal 10:00 AM. The OPTIMIST RACES normally scheduled for the morning of Sunday, August 10 will be held instead on the morning of Saturday, August 9.  Boat draw 9:00 AM, first warning signal 10:00 AM.

The COMMODORE’S PARTY is Saturday, August 9 beginning at 6:00 PM at the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek.  EYC members and guests of all ages are welcome at this party, which is always the highlight of the EYC’s social season.  Bring your favorite appetizer; the EYC supplies wine, beer, and soft drinks. Admission for adults is $15, and for those 18 and under is $10 (not $8 as erroneously reported in yesterday’s e-mail.) The EYC prefers your personal check.

The DEADLINE TO ENROLL IN SESSION F LESSONS is noon on Sunday, August 10. Session F lessons run from Monday, August 11 through Friday, August 14.  A few enrollment slots remain available, at the Beginner and Intermediate levels only.  For more information about EYC junior group sailing lessons, and to enroll, go to www.eyc.org/lessons

The EYC’s FINAL DAY OF SERIES RACING is Sunday, August 10.

The EYC’s Flying Scot Fleet 44 will conduct a free INFORMAL RACING CLINIC on the morning of Saturday, August 16.  We will set up a short practice race course and run a few practice starts and practice races.  Some of the fleet’s more advanced racers will be available to coach and sail with the less experienced racers.  All Flying Scot racers are encouraged to take part.  EYC-owned Flying Scots will be available for use by qualified members.  Report time 9:00 AM, first start 10:00 AM.

HOURS:  Beginning Monday, August 11, through Friday, August 15, the EYC will be staffed from 9:00 AM to noon and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  On Saturday, August 16, the EYC will not be staffed, and the clubhouse will be closed after the Fleet 44 clinic ends.  On Sunday, August 17, the EYC will be closed, although members will still be able to access their boats on the pier.
