This week at the EYC

Friday, May 27th, 2016

Lots of updates this week, so please read through to the end!

Helping out at the EYC has become even easier Unknown

This year, EYC is moving into the 21st century by using a web based tool called SignUp Genius which makes it a snap for you to sign up for  your favorite event or activity.

At EYC, the summer is jam packed with activities from morning to night and every single event runs on the volunteer efforts of EYC members.  SignUp Genius will make it so easy for you to help out the volunteer coordinator by allowing you to sign up for specific dates, times, length of service and to see other EYC members who have signed up.

You never have to worry about forgetting what you signed up for because SignUp Genius will remind you before the event.  If you signed up and something better comes up, don’t despair, you can delete your name or swap with another volunteer.

See- it’s absolutely genius!  Let’s take the stress out of volunteering and put the fun into volunteering at EYC.

Get started and click on the direct link below to view all of EYC’s signup sheets.  Please email your SignUp Genius Coordinator Jeanne Papenthien with updates, changes or additions to the signup sheets- jeannepap@me.com  http://www.signupgenius.com/index.cfm?go=c.SignUpSearch&eid=08C0CCD7FFCFF66C&cs=09CBBADF8FBE8B627B7964715BC09BBD

Education Notes:

There are several newer classes offered this year, especially for those students in the Beginner/Intermediate skill levels-Intro to Lasers, Beginner Full Day and Opti Racing.  If you have any questions as to how these classes fit into the curriculum or for which classes your student would be eligible, please feel free to contact Liz Gheorghita at education@eyc.org.  Additionally, members of the Education Committee will be at the Club Opening this Saturday and would be happy to answer any questions.

Private lessons are a great way to brush up for a summer on the water after a long winter.  You can take one lesson to focus on one particular skill, or a week or more at any of the skill levels offered at the EYC, Beginner through Racing.  The schedule is flexible and lessons can be booked directly with Erica Heidler, Club Director, at (920) 854-7107.  More information and pricing can be found at http://eyc.org/private-sailing-lessons/.

Lasers! Do you have a student who is considering enrolling in the Laser Clinic on July 16 & 17?  We have a limited number of club owned Lasers that are available on a first come, first served basis.  After that, students will need to provide their own (or borrowed) boat to participate.  We will be opening enrollment to students outside the EYC in the next few weeks.

Upcoming Events:

Spring Clean up:  Sat May 28th.  9-noon with burgers at noon.

All EYC members are encouraged to come down to the club at 9:00am on Saturday, May 28th to help open the club.  We will be organizing and cleaning the clubhouse, docks and boats for the 2016 season.  We anticipate being finished by Noon.  There are jobs for all ages and abilities.  Afterward, the EYC will fire up the grills for a complimentary picnic lunch.  Please come and join in the fun!  We need your help!

Fyr Bal Pancake Breakfast and EYC Open House:  Saturday June 18!

If you can help out for a few hours as a server, cook’s helper, door person, or otherwise, please contact event chair Jay Lott  jaylott01@gmail.com.

FYR BAL Pancake Breakfast Sat. June 18, Volunteers needed

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016

Please attend the EYC’s Fyr Bal Pancake Breakfast on June 18 between 7:30 and 10:30 AM at the Ephraim Village Hall. Bring your friends too! This event is open to the public, and all proceeds benefit the EYC.

The menu will feature the traditional all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. The Pancake Breakfast is a great way to start your Fyr Bal day in the company of friends and family at a scenic and central location.

We need volunteers to help run the Pancake Breakfast. If you can help out for a few hours as a server, cook’s helper, door person, or otherwise, please contact event chair Jay Lott  jaylott01@gmail.com.

EYC Sailing Lessons:  Summer is almost here. It’s a great time to sign up for sailing classes …  for you and your children!

Women’s Sailing Class (July 18-22) will focus on Beginner and Intermediate skills. This would be the perfect way to brush up and prepare for the Women’s Regatta the following week. Enroll the kids in some of the great afternoon offerings in Session C and enjoy a week on the water yourself!

Laser Clinic (July 16 & 17) Do you have a Laser sailor in the family? Take advantage of Bobby Collins’ excellent coaching in this two day clinic. This clinic is open to adults and youth, age 12 and up, with basic sailing and racing experience. Students who are under 12, but are enrolled in the Intro to Lasers class may take this clinic. No membership is required for this clinic, so it would be perfect for visiting friends.

Adventure Sailing: This fun class features destination sails in Eagle Harbor. Open to ages 7-17 and all skill levels, it is designed for siblings, cousins and visiting friends who want to sail together. Think hybrid of lesson sessions and junior activities. Four one week sessions in June and July.

Do you have a more advanced Beginner student?  Opti Racing is open to any student who has skippered in an Opti race.  It is not necessary to have passed Beginners, and can be taken alone or at the same time as the Beginner class.

Please visit the Education page at www.eyc.org/lessons for more details on these classes, as well as registration links. Please contact Liz Gheorghita at Education@eyc.org with questions.

A friendly reminder that locks and slips may not be assigned or sublet.  Also, the EYC, at its discretion, may request you to remove your boat from the dock for major regattas, such as the Ephraim Regatta, if your boat is not being utilized for the event, in order to help facilitate the event.

New Options for Sailing Lessons!

This summer two new classes will be offered at the EYC.  A one week, full day version of the Beginner class will be held on June 27-July 1, and August 8-12.  This option is perfect for those with limited time in Door County.  The second new class is Intro to Lasers.  This class is open to those who have completed the Beginner class and allows students to further single handed sailing skills with lots of tiller time.  Using the 4.7 rig, students as light as 77 pounds can now comfortably learn to sail a Laser.  Additionally, a second section of Opti Racing has been opened in Session C.  Please see www.eyc.org/lessons for more details and registration links!

The Ephraim Yacht Club is a family oriented non-profit organization focused on forwarding sailing education and racing to students of all ages located in the town of Ephraim, in Door County, Wisconsin on beautiful Eagle Harbor.
