This week at the EYC

It is officially summer, so clear your schedule and head for the EYC! Here’s what’s happening this week:

Tonight, June 24th: Attention 420 sailors!

This evening’s 420 fleet meeting will take place at the EYC just after boat draw at 5pm. Come on down to sign up for the fleet mailing list and to take part in the pre-race chalk talk directed by Roger Waleffe. The chalk talk will include specific tips for sailing fast in the evening’s conditions. 420 races are a lot of fun and we encourage everyone to join in! Even if you don’t have a crew or skipper, come anyway and pair up at the boat draw. If you have any questions email Roger Waleffe at [email protected].

Saturday morning: 9:00 am

This week’s Pre-Race Chalk Talk is with Cain Goettelman.  And don’t miss next week’s July 2nd 9:00 am  Pre-Race Chalk Talk with Stacey Rieu & Jennifer Ikeda-Faugust.

Saturday June 25 Evening Events and Opening Social:

Calling all EYC Former Staff – First “GeezerGatta” Friday July 1st

Please join fellow former EYC staff and participate in the first (annual?!?) “GeezerGatta”, next Friday, July 1st. The races will be held as part of the normal Friday night Laser races, with boat draws at 5:00 pm and First Warning at 6:00 pm. You must be an EYC member to use an EYC-owned boat. You will be scored as part of the normal Friday night series, but additionally, have the opportunity to win “bragging rights” among your fellow staff alumni. If there is sufficient interest, we may also compete in 420s.

Only Two Weeks until EYC’s Opti Regatta

The Opti Regatta is scheduled for July 9 and 10. If your child is interested in competing in an EYC-owned Opti, please send email [email protected] with the skipper’s name and the regatta name prior to July 5, 2016, at 5:00 p.m., requesting to be in the boat draw.  Look for email confirmation of receipt in order to be entered into the draw. You do not need to be present for this early boat draw. For those who have not entered the July 5 boat draw, an additional drawing will take place at 1:00 p.m. before the regatta starts, for the remaining boats, if available.  If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

Education Notes

The morning section of the Beginner Class is now SOLD OUT for Session D, July 25 –  August 5.  There are spaces in the afternoon for that session, as well as spots available in the morning in other sessions.  Many of the afternoon classes have a lower hourly rate and offer a better student/teacher ratio.

Registration closes for all classes on Sunday at noon, the day before classes begin; however, early registration is always appreciated as it helps us plan our staffing needs.

Classes will be held on the Fourth of July.  Any time your student will not attend class, please notify Erica Heidler, Club Director.

Opti Racing, Intro to Lasers, Powerboat Skills, Adventure Sailing, Women’s Sailing, Beginner Full Day, and of course, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Racing.  With all these offerings plus private lessons, there is something for everyone at the EYC!  Plan now to get out on the water in 2016.  Details can be found at www.eyc.org/lessons, or feel free to look for any of the staff or Education Chair, Liz Gheorghita, at the Opening Social.
