Ephraim Yacht Club

The EYC will host the largest event in its history, the Flying Scot
North American Championship regatta, from August 1 - 7, 2009.  Eighty
to one hundred Flying Scots from all over the United States and Canada
are expected to attend.  Besides being a lot of fun, this event will
introduce EYC members to a higher caliber of sailing competition, will
showcase Ephraim andDoor County as a premium racing venue, and will
allow all of us to make new friends in the Flying Scot class.
 
Racing will take place from Sunday, August 2, through Friday, August 7,
2009.  In addition, there will be several dinners and parties
throughout the event to which everyone is invited, including
non-competitors and non-EYC members.
 
In order to put on an event of the quality expected by our guests, a
lot of volunteers is needed to help with all aspects of this event
including:
 
* registration and measuring
 
* towing, safety/rescue, race committee, and other on-the-water jobs
 
* launching and recovery
 
* meals, events and hospitality
 
We particularly seek volunteers who can provide the following
equipment:  1) ATVs which can be equipped with trailer balls to launch
Flying Scots at the Firehouse ramp, and (2) powerboats for use in
towing, safety/rescue, race committee, and to carry judges, spectators
and photographers. 
 
We also will need to house certain VIPs such as judges and race officers.
 
Finally, we are looking for photographers to document the event and make digital photos available to all.

Volunteers are needed to help out with the EYC’s second annual
Regatta Welcome Party on the evening of August 1. Volunteers are needed
for door duty, chef’s helpers, beer monitor, margarita mixer, and more.

Please volunteer an hour of your time to help with this
fast-becoming-legendary party. Volunteers will receive free admission.

Spread the word:  all EYC members and nonmembers are invited to attend the second annual Regatta Welcome Party on Friday, August 1.  The party begins at 6:00 P.M. and includes dinner, beer, maragaritas and soft drinks.
 
The menu will include goose bratwurst, barbequed pheasant, partridge and quail, smoked salmon, a fish fry, and some vegetarian side dishes.
 
There will also be volleyball, bocce ball, and horseshoe tossing to keep the kids amused.
 
The party is at Jay Lott’s house, located at 9910 Mueller Lane.  Directions from the EYC:  go two blocks south on Hwy. 42 to the intersection with Hwy. Q.  Turn left (east) on Hwy. Q and go 3 1/2 miles to Mueller Lane.  Turn right (south) on Mueller Lane.  The house is the only one on Mueller Lane.  Please park on the street.
 
Admission to the party is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.  The party is a fundraiser for the EYC and all proceeds will be donated to the EYC.

6:00pm - Our second TEEN NIGHT! Meet up with the instructors at the Sister Bay Sports Complex for some wiffleball/softball at 6:00pm. We’ll head over to Fred and Fuzzy’s at 7:15 to enjoy some live entertainment (The Nick’s!) and some dinner! Bring money for dinner. (Feel free to join us at Fred and Fuzzy’s if you aren’t up for wiffleball).

-Joanie Lewis Reports - The July 10th Founder’s Day Cookout was very enjoyable! At 6:00 the rain came down and chased many people away. A few stalwarts (20 of us) grilled burgers, sang Happy Birthday to EYC and enjoyed a delicious cake. More rain came down, but at 8:30, a beautiful Door County red sunset over Horseshoe concluded our gathering!
