With Memorial Day Weekend just 7 days away, its time to start thinking about your summer at EYC!! 4 important announcements for EYC Members:
CLUB SERIES RACING
We are looking forward to the start of EYC club series racing in just a month! New in 2015: Lasers will race on Tuesday evenings (at the same time as Optimists, with a separate course) and on Saturday afternoons, but not on Sunday afternoons. This change is NOT reflected in the EYC’s annual Schedule printed in your Membership Directory.
As in 2014, Optimists will race on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday mornings. 420s will race on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Flying Scots will race on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. Racing begins Saturday, June 13th.
MAY 23RD- SPRING CLEAN UP/CLUBHOUSE OPENING- 9:00 am
May 23 Opening WORK DAY. All EYC members are requested and encouraged to help open the EYC beginning at 9:00 AM sharp on Saturday, May 23. It’s a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and to meet new friends! Among other things we will be removing boats and equipment from winter storage, installing ladders and dock boxes, and cleaning the house and dock. Most projects should be finished before noon. There are jobs for people of all ages, ability, and strength. Join us for Burgers and Brats after as our thank you for your help.
The EYC relies heavily on its member volunteers to open and close the EYC each season, which helps hold down dues and makes the EYC accessible for all. Last year over 50 EYC members helped open the EYC. Please help us exceed that number this year!
EYC FYR BAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST SATURDAY JUNE 20- VOLUNTEER PLEASE
Please attend the Fyr Bal Pancake Breakfast on June 20 between 7:30 and 10:30 AM at the Ephraim Village Hall, to benefit the EYC! Bring your friends too! The menu will feature the traditional all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. The Pancake Breakfast is a great way to start your Fyr Bal day in the company of friends and family at a scenic and central location.
We need volunteers to help run the Pancake Breakfast! If you can help out for a few hours as a server, cook’s helper, door person, or otherwise, please contact event chair Jay Lott- firstname.lastname@example.org. Volunteers get a free breakfast!
AARON R MOORE SCHOLARSHIP GALA UPDATE: Thanks again to the Moore Family for their work on the amazing Gala on April 29th. Together with associated donations, the 2015 Aaron R Moore Gala netted over $15,000 for EYC Scholarships. These funds will pay for current scholarships, and will help build the endowment to pay for future scholarships.
The third annual Aaron R. Moore Sailing Scholarship Fundraiser was a huge success! EYC members, guests, friends, and supporters gathered at the Lake Forest Club in Lake Forest on April 25 for an evening of South Pacific inspired fun. Dressed in festive Hawaiian attire, partiers enjoyed an evening of South Pacific music and drumming, an amazing array of Polynesian food, Pina Coladas, Mai Tai’s and over 75 auction and raffle items to bid on. The evening was topped off by a 45 min. floor- show of authentically costumed dancers performing dances from Hawaii, Polynesia and Samoa. Guests were able to bid on over 75 silent auction and raffle items.
A VERY BIG THANK YOU to all who attended, all who bid on the silent auction, bought raffle tickets, all who helped and all who donated! This event would not have been possible without you!
Check out the EYC Facebook page for photos from this event. Additionally, find out about the EYC staff this summer on Facebook! See the link below to connect to Facebook.

Fellow EYC members,
With the new EYC season starting soon, I wish to recognize three EYC volunteers whose work for the EYC and its members goes far beyond the norm.
They are (in no particular order) Susan Reynolds-Smith, Sue Zingsheim, and Fran Morof.
Susan Reynolds-Smith has for many years been in charge of apparel and promotional items sales for the EYC. Each winter, she chooses a variety of tasteful and fun new items, and shepherds them through the production process. Then, all summer long, she is at the EYC several times per week, offering these items for sale to EYC members. Because the EYC doesn’t have room for a retail store, Susan uses the back of her SUV as her sales location. Susan carefully monitors inventory and reorders throughout the season as necessary. If it was not for Susan, EYC members would have no way to obtain EYC-branded apparel. Also, Susan has grown sales so well over the years so that her hard work has created a significant source of financial support — many thousands of dollars per year — for the EYC’s operations.
Sue Zingsheim is an EYC board member and has served on the EYC’s membership committee since 2011. In 2012 she became Membership Chair. Sue has worked hard and carefully to transition the EYC’s membership processing online, choosing an appropriate software vendor and moving the EYC’s membership data to that vendor. Sue made sure that the transition occurred seamlessly and with as little hassle as possible for EYC members. The new membership system saves the EYC money, makes it easier for new members to join and for existing members to renew, makes our membership directory available to members online, and saves scores of hours of volunteer time each year which was previously expended maintaining the offline membership database. Sue also ensures that membership directory and membership cards are mailed each spring to renewing members. Sue’s job is complex, requires a lot of organization and attention to detail, and is crucial to the health of the EYC, and she has performed it with flying colors.
Fran Morof has been the Editor of the Eagle’s Cry, the EYC’s newsletter, for many years. Twice annually, Fran dedicates herself to rustling up articles from a variety of authors, editing and proofreading those articles, choosing appropriate pictures from the EYC’s photo archive, and laying out the Eagle’s Cry using desktop publishing software. The Eagle’s Cry has received numerous compliments for its quality and comprehensiveness. (Just yesterday I had a note from a former EYC member from Virginia, who recently viewed the Eagle’s Cry on our website. She said “Let me complement you on the Eagle’s Cry newsletter. I see a lot of such documents and it is the best one I know of.”) A quality newsletter helps keep our members connected and is crucial to the success of the EYC. When a 20- or 30-page Eagle’s Cry arrives in your mailbox, on time, twice per year, it couldn’t have happened without Fran.
The EYC appreciates the efforts of all its volunteers, regardless of how much time they are able to contribute. But, these three are something special. Next time you see Susan, Sue, or Fran, please thank them for their time, and for their dedication to the EYC and its members.
Yours in Wind and Water,

The EYC is transitioning its membership tracking and payment system online. As the first step in the transition, members will be asked to activate a free account with our membership software vendor, ClubExpress.
Each Family, Senior and Single member will receive an e-mail on or after December 14 from the EYC via ClubExpress, giving a link and instructions on how to activate their EYC/ClubExpress account.
PLEASE READ the December 14 e-mail and follow the instructions to activate your account. You will need to activate your account prior to renewing your membership for 2013.
Membership renewal will commence in January 2013 and you will receive a separate e-mail at that time explaining how to renew your EYC membership online.

It’s the last week of the EYC’s short, but intense, summer season! Please make the most of it by attending the Commodore’s Party and the EYC’s annual membership meeting.
The EYC’s ANNUAL MEETING OF THE MEMBERS will be at the EYC clubhouse at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 11. If you are a Family, Single, Senior or Life member, please attend the meeting so that we can have a quorum to elect four new members of the Board of Directors and to conduct other official EYC business. The Annual Meeting is also one of many opportunities for the EYC’s members to provide feedback and ask questions of the EYC’s Directors and officers.
Help end the EYC’s social season in style! Come to the COMMODORE’S PARTY, Saturday, August 11 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the pavilion by the ballpark at the Sister Bay Sports Complex. EYC members and guests of all ages are welcome at this EYC fundraiser! Bring your favorite appetizer; the EYC supplies wine, beer, and soft drinks. Admission is $15 (adults and children age 9 and older) or $8 (age 8 and under). Your personal check is preferred.
Directions: from Hwy. 42 in Sister Bay, take ZZ east to Woodcrest Road. Turn left and park by the ball field, or go in the main entrance and park by the tennis courts.
There are some CHANGES TO THE RACING SCHEDULE as a result of the annual meeting. The Flying Scot races normally scheduled for the morning of Saturday, August 11 will be held instead on the morning of Sunday, August 12. The Optimist races normally scheduled for the morning of Sunday, August 12 will not be held. The last races of the EYC’s 2o12 season will be the Laser and Flying Junior races on the afternoon of Sunday, August 12.
The DEADLINE TO ENROLL IN SESSION F SAILING GROUP SAILING LESSONS is noon on Sunday, August 11. Session F lessons begin Monday, August 13 and run through Friday, August 17. This one-week session is a good way to introduce a new sailor to the sport at a lower cost, or to provide additional lesson time to a student who has already taken lessons in 2012. The EYC has a limited number of instructor staff available during this week, so enroll now before your preferred lesson level and time are full! For more information, and to enroll, go to www.eyc.org/lessons.

If you are a longtime EYC member, please make a special effort to introduce yourself to new members and make them feel welcome.
The EYC will supply wine and soft drinks. Please bring an hors d’oeuvre in sufficent quantity not just to feed your own family, but also to share. Dress is summer casual. The EYC will provide valet parking for those few members who are not able to walk from the Spruce Street or Anderson Dock parking lots. Please, no dogs at this event.

EYC member Luke Sheets went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 11.
Luke and four friends from Oral Roberts University were on their way to an “Acquire the Fire” event when their plane went down in Kansas. Please keep passenger Hannah Luce in your prayers as she has miraculously survived and is in serious but stable condition.
If you knew Luke, you liked him. Words like…spiritual, godly, intelligent, kind, and humble only start to describe the kind of man he is. He graduated from ORU on May 5 and was pursuing his love of flying.
Please remember his parents Craig and Debra and his brother Blake in your prayers.
Arrangements for his home going service are in process; we will send an update when plans are finalized.
