Testimonials

The EYC is proud to receive praise for its welcoming, inclusive, sailing-oriented culture, for the quality of its sailing lesson program, and for its hardworking, friendly staff.  Here are a few examples:

“My son really loves sailing.  It is really a fantastic program  and a wonderful opportunity for our kids to have in their community.”EYC parent, 2014

“Sailing at EYC trumps any other summer activities!  We signed our children up for 4 sessions last year and  they loved every minute.  The instructors are awesome.  EYC offers daily lessons, tons of race opportunities and weekly junior activities to keep our summer full of friends and fun.  We are doing it again!” – EYC parent, 2013

“EYC sailing lessons are a favorite of my son’s Door County summers!  The EYC staff’s love of sailing is contagious.  Students learn how to rig the various sailboats, points of sail, and racing tactics.  Both staff and students have a blast spending mornings on the blue waters of Eagle Harbor!” – EYC parent, 2013

“I wanted to let you know what a delightful and productive week I had at the Ephraim Yacht Club.  Last week, under the tutelage of Morgan D, I learned how to sail, something I have wanted to do for some time. I probably could have found a different venue much closer to home, but I am quite satisfied I took lessons offered by the EYC. I would also like to take the opportunity to praise Miss D. She provided clear instruction on all aspects of sailing and proved to be quite the taskmaster to ensure I did everything correctly. Having spent 20 years in the Army I appreciate clear, concise instruction, attention to detail and insistence on performing all tasks to standard.  One more thing about Miss D. Due to her personality, she was a delight to spend a week of afternoons with. In an age where young people often are characterized a slackers or lazy, Miss D proves this false. She is a credit to herself, anyone who had a hand in her upbringing and the Ephraim Yacht Club. In short, it was a wonderful week.  I thank you and the club for offering the opportunity to teach me to sail and will look forward to next season.”  – EYC adult student, August 2013

“I would like to thank you so much for the two scholarships you have given me this summer! I never thought I would love sailing as much as I do and I wish I could do it everyday of the summer! I can’t wait until next summer’s lessons!  I also had two amazing instructors this year, Charlotte J and Alden C. They taught me so much and kept me smiling and laughing the whole two weeks!”EYC scholarship student, August 2013

“We have never seen our son this enthusiastic and motivated about ANYTHING! He absolutely loves his sailing lessons and has learned so much. The instructors are fantastic and give very specific, individual feedback. We think he has found  a true passion that he will hopefully continue to follow his whole life. He seems to have been bitten severely by the ‘sailing bug’!” – EYC parent, 2013

“I just got back from Ephraim, where they held their 107th annual regatta combined with this year’s Flying Scot Midwest District Championships. Ephraim is an amazing club, driven by its junior sailing program. For those of you who have been to the club (they hosted NACs a few years ago) they barely have room to turn around on their pier and yet they have more than 400 memberships, which comes out to about 1,000 total members. I will note here that the permanent population of Ephraim is 299. Do the math!  So for two months in the summer Ephraim Yacht Club is a burbling, energized spot for kids of all ages. They have almost 20 kids hired to be sailing instructors and most of those kids also help or compete in the regatta. The whole weekend we did not see a single person (by that I mean teen or younger) messing with their phone; kids were swimming off the club’s float, they were kayaking, they were playing a kind of ball game or they were sailing. Too bad I can’t have a “do over” and spend my youth at Ephraim!”Ephraim Regatta competitor, 2012

“I wanted to take this opportunity to compliment you on a phenomenal staff. We have had 3 sons in the program over the past 8 years. I have watched the program grow. Observing from the clubhouse at the end of a day as the students put all the equipment away with ease and confidence you can see the sense of responsibility in their demeanor. They work together efficiently.   These lessons are learned from a staff of peers and mentors. What they learn from these fun responsible motivated young people is invaluable. We will always be grateful to you and the entire EYC staff for helping us shape our children. We are so fortunate to have such a warm welcoming wholesome family environment to be a part of  with great role models.” EYC parent, July, 2012

“Just a note to say what a stellar job your staff does with the lessons.  My sons are in their first session this summer, and love it. Moreover, the quickness with which you get kids out on the water sailing is impressive–a fearlessness is instilled in these young sailors.  Thank you so much–and keep up the great work!”EYC parent, August 2012

“My wife and I wanted to say we really enjoyed the adult beginner lessons we took last week from Woody, and enjoyed meeting and getting to know him, and our classmates.  We were anxious to try out our rigging and sailing skills, and that we enjoyed taking out the White Whale again on Saturday with a couple of family members–with some assistance rigging and de-rigging from the able dock crew.  We are only up for a few more weekends, but plan to be down to the EYC to keep in practice on the rigging, sailing and docking.  Congratulations on all the enthusiasm and smooth operations.  We look forward to meeting more people over time.”EYC adult beginner students and new members, 2012
