Advanced 420 Clinic July 6-7

The EYC will host an Advanced 420 Clinic, in the EYC’s new fleet of 420-class dinghies, on July 6 and 7, 2013.  To enroll click here.

The clinic is open to students ages 12 to 18 and will include approximately 12 hours of instruction.  The clinic will serve as an introduction to the 420, and will focus on racing the 420 on short courses, including rigging, boathandling, skipper-crew teamwork, and tactics.  The clinic will serve as an accelerated introduction to the 420 for EYC sailors who are new to the 420.  For students who may wish to race in high school or college, this clinic will provide an excellent introduction to the boats and racing format used at those levels.

The clinic will be led by Martha Pitt and Bobby Collins.  Martha is the sailing school director at the Chicago Yacht Club. A 4-year varsity sailor at Boston College, Martha was a skipper on BC’s 2008 national championship team and twice earned All-American honorable mention.   Bobby is the head sailing coach at the Chicago Yacht Club.  Bobby is the former coach of the Northwestern University sailing team and has decades of experience racing and coaching dinghies in the U.S. and in his native Ireland.

To enroll, students should be eligible for the EYC’s Level 3 class or higher, or should have completed an equivalent level of instruction in another program.  EYC membership is NOT required in order to take this clinic.

The $110 clinic price includes instruction, use of EYC boats, lunch Saturday and Sunday, and participation in the EYC’s Sunday afternoon 420 series races.  Students should bring their own PFD and appropriate clothing and gear.
