Slips and lockers still available

The EYC gets lots of help from members and friends. We are especially grateful to those who give time during our all-too-short summer season.

Thank you to Marsella Fults, who took responsibility for our three flower planters and our window flower boxes, and weeded and tilled them and planted them with lovely flowers which we are sure will survive for quite a while. Marsella also hosted our two visiting coaches during Advanced 420 Clinic, launders the immense amount of cleaning towels we go through each week, and makes sure we have enough gift certificates for the end-of-session student awards ceremonies.

Thank you to Linda Carey, who shot a bunch of great pictures of our new 420s on their first day of racing, and sent those pictures in to the EYC.

Thank you to the O’Rourke, Latrielle and Richter families. For the fourth year in a row they have sponsored the Fyr Bal Family Cookout, providing all the grillables and doing all the cooking and other work. The event has become a favorite with EYC members as we greet friends and mark the summer solstice and the beginning of the EYC’s summer season.

Thank you to EYC member Paul Jones, who is lending the EYC the use of his electric boat lift for the summer. The EYC is now able to keep another of our Flying Scots on a lift, making it easily accessible for member and student use.

Thank you to EYC member Liz Gheorghita for volunteering to be the EYC’s Queen of Pop. She keeps all the pop (aka “soda”) inventory at her house, and otherwise manages all aspects of the Coke machine. Liz also volunteered to be co-Chair of the EYC’s July 13 gala Dinner with Gary Jobson, and helped provide lunches for the EYC’s Advanced 420 Clinic on July 6-7. When you see Liz, please thank her for volunteering.

Thank you to Heather Andersen, who helped provide the lunches and beverages for the Advanced 420 Clinic, together with Liz.

Thank you to the co-chairs of the Opening Social, Alison Tatlow and Linda Franczyk, who had the party perfectly prepared on a perfect night to open the season and catch up with old friends.

Thank you to EYC House and Dock chair Rich Bierman, who took a day off from work on Monday, June 24 to supervise contractors installing the remainder of the EYC’s floating piers, together with some additional ladders, to provide safer and easier access to boats for EYC members and juniors. Rich also built a new waterproof plywood dock box for our increased inventory of 420 sails, and picked up a new plastic dock box and then modified it for our Optimist blades.

Thank you to Steve and Jessica Sauter, whose business icecreamsource.com supplied three gallons of ice cream for the EYC’s July 4 Ice Cream Social.

Thank you to Cain Goettelman and his family’s business, FLS Banners in Sturgeon Bay, and to Ryan Malmgren of Mad Sails, who teamed up to provide a free Mad Sails hat to each participant in the EYC’s Advanced 420 Clinic.

Thank you to Rex Kahr who, together with Rich Bierman, installed rubber bumper material on all our new floating piers.

Thanks to Sherry and Rob Moore for hosting the EYC staff for an excellent picnic dinner on Sunday, June 23.

The EYC receives too many cash donations to thank all cash donors in an e-mail like this one. We thank cash donors instead by thank-you letters and by listing them in the Eagle’s Cry. However, the EYC is particularly grateful for one recent donation. Thank you to Joan Schaupp, who was one of many EYC members requesting a “senior” swim ladder. Joan backed up her request with a cash donation which paid for the entire ladder.

We try to make sure everyone who helps is publicly thanked. However, so many people help that sometimes we forget or someone falls through the cracks. If you know of someone who has helped the EYC, and has not been publicly thanked in an e-mail or in the Eagle’s Cry, please let us know [email protected]

EYC Flying Scot racers should mark their calendars now for these Midwest 2013 Flying Scot regattas. Traveling to compete is fun! Every regatta has at least one great party associated with it. Competing against top sailors — the ones who travel — is the best way to make yourself better.

The EYC still has a few 2013 dry slips and rack slots available on a first-come, first-served basis for Optimists, Lasers, kayaks, paddleboards, and windsurfers.

Also, a few EYC lockers (12 x 12 x 16 inches) are still available. These lockers are perfect for keeping your small items (such as purses, wallets, computers, phones, and lunch) dry and secure while you are out on the water. These lockers cost only $25 for the season.
