EYC/EHF C0-Ed Bunco Night- Saturday, August 17th
Please join the Ephraim Yacht Club and Ephraim Historical Foundation for a jointly hosted Adult Co-Ed Bunco night at the Ephraim Yacht Club clubhouse on Saturday, August 17 at 6:30PM. Registration at the door costs $10 per person, with proceeds going to both non-profit organizations. Don’t miss out on this fun night of games and prizes! Snacks will be on the tables – this event is BYOB. We look forward to seeing you there!
Bridge
Bridge will continue through September and follows the following schedule: Mondays – 1:00 – 3:00/3:30 Open play, Tuesdays – 4:30 – 6:30, Couples (bring a partner) and Thursdays – 9:30 – 11:30/Noon – Open Play. Last day of bridge will be September 30th.
Fall Close-up Day-Saturday, August 31st
While we are all forlorn to bid adieu to the summer of 2024 and all the wonderful sailing and fellowship that occurred, we must all look towards our winter activities and the first one being closing up the Clubhouse for the winter. For those EYC members in Door County during the Labor Day week, please come on down to the dock for our fall close-up day on Saturday, August 31st. We will start at 9:00 a.m. and we will have refreshments for the participants.
Commodore’s Cocktail-Wrap-up
The Commodore’s Cocktail Party/Fundraiser was Commodore Lisa Gifford’s opportunity to recognize, honor and celebrate the sailors who race in the weekly race series throughout the season. Additionally, the Sportsmanship award was bestowed to Max Travnicek. The Volunteer of the year Award was bestowed to Jeanne Papenthien and Marta Fonseca was named Vice Commodore. We would also like to recognize departing board member Hugh Haggerty and welcome new board members Julia Reynolds and Susanna Mortara!!
A huge thank you to the creative and amazing *Julie Watkins* who chaired the party, created amazing floral arrangements and strung up pfds reminding membership that the Membership, BOD, staff and volunteers are who keeps the Commodore and EYC afloat! Additional recognition and thanks to Laura O’Rourke, Marta Fonseca, Jeanne and Ted Papenthien, Jess and Steve Sauter, Carol Fiedler, Myra DeLong, Andrew Gifford, Marguerite Roza, Paul Heim, Pete Moegenburg, Jack O’Rourke and EYC staff for making the party a huge success!
Good news! Since the EYC annual meeting is being held on Friday afternoon, for the first time in many years, Scot racers will have an opportunity to race one more time this summer. Come on down Saturday morning and race one last time in our EYC weekly series. Skippers meeting will be held at 9 a.m. and racing starts at 10:00 a.m.

119th Regatta Wrap-up
Last Saturday, the EYC held the 119th Ephraim Regatta . We had a wonderful weekend for the Ephraim Regatta. We kicked off with our Friday night Welcome party hosted by Nancy Claypool and Barb Zeigler. Thanks so much for creating a welcoming atmosphere for all the sailors that traveled to participate. Additionally, we would like to thank all the EYC members that provided appetizers/ desserts for the event.

A special thank you to Liz Dischner for coordinating the lunches and food, Dennis Miller for his help with boat launching, Cain Goettleman and FLS Banners, Isak and Kelly Petersen for being our sherpas and helping with anything we needed and to the EYC staff.
The Regatta party was great night to chat about the race and get to know our traveling racers. Hats off to Emily Heidler for organizing such a fantastic event. A big thank you to the Ephraim Historical Foundation for allowing the use of the Olga Dana Green for the site of our party. Thanks to Great Lakes BBQ for catering the event, JR Jarosh and Edgewood Orchard Gallery for providing the table and chairs, Pete and Laura Moegenburg,food pickup, Jeanne and Ted Papenthien, setup, Carol Fiedler and Marta Fonseca, greeters, Andrew and Lisa Gifford, bartenders and to the O’Rourkes, the Sauters, the Spones and Bob Richter for their extra hands during the evening.
For this year’s Regatta, we had 24 boats participating from 9 different clubs! While Saturday’s winds allowed the completion of only one race, the winds on Sunday blew strong enough for 3 races. The winners of the 119th Regatta were skipper Mark Johnson and crew (none name on ) with the Neenah Nodaway Yacht Club. 2nd place went to skipper Michael Faugust and crewJennifer Ikeda, with the EYC. 3rd Place went to skipper Bruce Kitchen and crew Lynn Kitchen with Cowan Lake Sailing Association. Fourth place went to skipper Dave Gorwitz and crew Mike Ekberg with Lake Monona Sailing club. 5th place went to skipper Kevin Kunz and crew Kendall Kunz with the Lafayette Sailing Club.
We would like to recognize the Capital Lake Sailing Association and the club for traveling all the way from Jefferson City, Missouri with 4 four boats.
This week will be our last Junior Activity of the summer. We will be returning to the Red Putter for a fun night of putt putt. Please pick up and drop off at the Red Putter, 6:30p.m.-7:30p.m.. Ages 8 to 17 years are welcome. Younger children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Flying Scot Women’s North American Championship
Congratulations to Nancy Claypool with crew Carol Claypool and Carrie Berger who won the Flying Scot Women’s North American Championship in Madison, Wisconsin this weekend. This is one of FSSA’s five national championships in the Flying Scot class. The others are the North American Championship, the Midwinter Championship, the Wife Husband Championship and the Junior North American Championship.
Family Regatta Wrap-up
Last Saturday, the EYC held their annual family regatta. We had four boats participating! After three races, the winners were Steve Sauter and crew Vivi Sauter. 2nd place went to the Knight family boat with skipper Will Knight and crew Sara and Henry Knight. 3rd Place went to the Stollenwerk family boat, with skipper Phil Stollenwerk and crew Andrea, Olivia and Eloise. Fourth place went to the Hoag/Travnicek boat with skipper Max Travnicek and crew Miles Travnicek, and Calvin and Penelope Hoag.
This week our Junior Activity will be Capture the Flag. Pick-up and drop-off will be at the Sister Bay Sports Complex. The sign-up is in the clubhouse and participants must be an EYC student or family member. Ages 8 to 17 years are welcome. Younger children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Temperatures remain high, Please send your child with a water bottle.

This regatta is open to EYC members and the boat draw for EYC- owned boats will be at 9:00 a.m., the optional skippers meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. and the first warning signal will be at 10:00 a.m. Family Regatta will be raced as part of the Flying Scot Saturday series, but each also will be scored separately as a regatta. Up to three races will be held.

Laser Regatta Wrap-up
Last weekend, the EYC held their annual Laser Regatta. There was great wind for the weekend and our PRO, Rick Trester did an outstanding job! We had 11 boats participating, 6 from the EYC and 5 from 4 other yacht clubs. After 7 races, 1st Place went to Dave Poquette (EYC & CCYC), 2nd to Michael Faugust(EYC) and 3rd place to Mark Labor (MSC). The EYC is saddened to announce the passing of Carole Kraemer on July 6th, 2024. We express our sincere condolences to Carole’s family and friends, especially her husband George Kraemer. Carole and George were both sailing enthusiasts and longtime members of the EYC.
Come on down to the dock this week to check out all the wonderful performances by our EYC youth members and staff! All members are welcome to attend. The sign-up is in the clubhouse, Participants must be an EYC student or family member. Ages 8 to 17 years are welcome. Younger children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Joani Lewis Memorial Sail and Social- Thursday, July 25th
Come out on Thursday from 12:00 p.m.- 1:00 p.m. for a sail in memory of Joani Lewis. Those of us who knew Joanie remember her love of sailing and of her commitment to endear others to the sport. We will have two flying Scots skippered by EYC instructors to take folks out for a relaxing sail in Eagle Harbor. The sail will be followed by a simple wine, cheese and pie reception.

Oh what a night! Family Fiesta on the Dock
The EYC dock was rocking last Thursday at the first EYC Family Fiesta. Sergio’s Taco Truck was a huge hit! As was the piñata! Young sailors raced Optis and RS Teras, kids swam, and all enjoyed the colors of the setting sun. Fun was had by the young and the young at heart. A BIG shout out to Susanna Mortarra (party planner extraordinaire)for transporting us to the Yucatan Peninsula and showcasing an idyllic EYC summer night on the dock. And thank you Susanna and Justin for generously donating the delicious ice cream sandwiches from Klaud’s Kitchen making the sweet event even sweeter.
Fiesta Family Night on the Dock -Thursday, July 18th
We are excited to invite all members down to the dock for a Fiesta from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sergio’s Taco Truck will be on the dock and will be serving tacos, burritos and quesadillas for order and purchase. Beverages (Margaritas, cervezas, and lemonade) provided by the EYC. Swim and watch the sunset. We also will have a piñata, limbo and other games for the young and the young at heart!

Laser Regatta- Saturday and Sunday, July 20th & 21st
The Laser Regatta will be held on Saturday, July 2oth and Sunday, July 21st. This regatta is open to all and competitors do not have to be EYC members. EYC members are eligible to use club boats and will be entered into the boat draw upon registration. Registration is available online at this link Laser Regatta and also on race day at the clubhouse. Opti Regatta Wrap-Up
Last weekend the EYC hosted their annual Opti Regatta. We had 13 boats participating. After two days of racing the results were 1st Frankie Pichette (SSYC), 2nd William Goettelman (EYC), 3rd Oliver Kosmoski(SSYC). The highest placing female skippers was Emma Douglas(SSYC) and the highest finisher under 12 was Harry Thacker (SSYC). We would like to give a shout out to our Race committee. Will Knight set great courses and ran two terrific days of racing with the assistance of Vivi Sauter and George Knight in the safety boat. A huge thank you to Jodi Hoyerman for chairing the Opti Regatta awards picnic and double thank you to Jodi and Rick Hoyerman for not only donating their time to make the awards picnics so special for the youth, but also for donating all the food for both the Rich Hall/420 and Opti awards lunches!
