It seems like only yesterday that the EYC’s summer season began, but most of July is already behind us, and the Ephraim Regatta is coming up. In addition to all the usual weekly activities at the EYC (see www.eyc.org/schedule for a complete list of scheduled activities), here’s what’s happening.
The second MEN’S NIGHT ON THE DOCK begins at 7:30 PM on Friday, July 26. EYC men can watch (or compete in) the Friday evening Laser and 420 races. We will fire up the grills around 7:30, and as the women and juniors depart after the races, we will finish whatever wasn’t finished the previous Friday, including drinks and conversations. BYO food, drink and cigars. The EYC’s no-smoking rule is suspended during this event only, and only outdoors.
The DEADLINE TO ENROLL IN SESSION E JUNIOR SAILING LESSONS is noon on Sunday, July 28. Session E sailing lessons run from July 29 through August 9. For more information about EYC sailing lessons, and to enroll, go to www.eyc.org/lessons

The EYC’s ANNUAL WOMEN’S REGATTA will be held in Flying Scots on Tuesday, July 30. Up to four races will be sailed. Non-EYC members are invited to compete as skipper in privately-owned boats, and non-members can sail as crew in any boat. There is no fee to compete in this regatta. After the regatta, competitors, friends and family will gather for a cookout at the EYC — BYO food and beverages. For more information and to view the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions, go to www.eyc.org/racing

Congrats to John and Deanna Peterson’s Charrette! First in Div. 3 and first overall in the Hundred Miler race on July 20, and shorthanded with only 6 crew, too! It’s their second year in a row with the overall victory in this race. The all-EYC crew members were John, Deanna, Isak Peterson, Woody Heidler, Erica Heidler, and Brian Ritter.

The EYC still needs some more mark anchors. The best are mushroom anchors, weightlifting weights and cast iron window sash counterweights. Eight to ten pounds is about perfect.
We also are in constant need of gallon jugs which we convert into scoop bailers. The best are milk jugs, orange juice jugs, and bleach jugs. All donated jugs must have their caps and must be thoroughly rinsed prior to being donated.
If you have some you can donate, the EYC will be very grateful. You can drop off weights and gallon jugs any time at the EYC. Thanks!

There’s a very nice Flying Scot for sale in the EYC’s classified advertisements. Helga (#5015) is in great racing condition and the price (with new racing sails and a Trailex aluminum trailer) is fair at $8000. You can see Helga at the Ephraim Regatta on August 3-4, where she will be sailed by her longtime owner, Flying Scot Sailing Association President Frank Gerry. For more information see www.eyc.org/classified-advertising
