EYC’s Learn to Sail Program and Racing Series Update
New Class for 2024
Summer is almost here and the Learn to Sail program will kick off on Monday, June 10th! We offer lessons from Beginners to advanced and everything in between, including a power boating and adult lessons.
Do you have a sailor who loves the 420/RS Tera or maybe a water rat who wants to improve their racing skills? Perhaps, you have a sailor looking for a more challenging course?
Intro to Racing is an ideal course for intermediate or advanced students who are excited to move FAST(er)! This course is coached by an accomplished college sailor (Hobart and William Smith College), Frances Depke, who is new to our staff this year. This course will be primarily taught in our 420 Fleet, or depending on the weight and size of the sailor, in our RS Teras, a perfect boat that is particularly suited for sailors looking to transition out of Optis.
Frances will guide students through the intricacies of effective racing strategy and tactics, offering insights that go beyond the basics. Unlike any other EYC course, this course includes common starting techniques, cover vs. fleet splitting decision making, and leveraging racing rules to your advantage. Sailboat racing opens doors to lifelong opportunities across various age groups and levels, from youth and high school competitions to collegiate and beyond. “Intro to Racing” serves as an invaluable stepping stone for honing competitive skills, setting sail towards a future filled with thrilling challenges and victories on the water.
EYC Weekly Race series
The EYC offers a weekly race series for our members to put their knowledge into action! Our weekly race series hosts a different fleet in the evenings on Mondays(Opti’s and Scots), Tuesdays(420’s and Lasers), Thursdays(Opti’s and RS Teras)) and Friday s(420’s and Lasers) and in the morning on Saturdays(Flying Scots). We kick off our racing series on Saturday, June 16th with our Flying Scot fleet.
Many sessions are full or filling up fast!
These sessions are currently full:
Beginner 1: B morning, B1 morning, B2 morning, B2 afternoon, C morning, C2 morning, D1 morning, D2 morning, F morning. For Beginner 2: B1, C1, C2 D1 all morning, Intermediate: B2, C2 morning , Adventure Sailing: B2 afternoon, D2 and E morning.

EYC Weekday Series
EYC racing starts on Saturday, June 10th. We have 5 different Fleets, Optis, RS Teras, 420s, Lasers and Flying Scots. The EYC weekday series is open to all members and club boats can be used. Boat Draw occurs one hour before race time.
With the addition of the RS Tera fleet, we have made changes to the race schedule, please take note. 
Monday: 420/Opti
Tuesday: RS Tera/Laser
Thursday: Opti/Flying Scot
Friday: Laser/420
Saturday: Flying Scot

Opening Social
EYC Opening Social will be held on Saturday, June 10, 5:30pm on the dock! All adult members welcome. Blessing of the fleet ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by a remembrance of members who have passed at 5:45 p.m. The social begins at 6:00 p.m.
Beer, wine, Champagne and music provided. Please bring an appetizer to pass. Sorry, no pets allowed. Greeters, Bar Service and clean-up help needed. To volunteer, sign up HERE.
FYR Bal Pancake Breakfast
The EYC will once again be part of the FYR Bal Festival and will host the Pancake Breakfast at the Eprhaim Village Hall. This is a fun way to be part of the Ephraim community, be involved with the EYC and support a great cause, Sailing Scholarships for Door County youth. To Volunteer, sign up HERE

Racing Series Change/Fyr Ball Regatta
Racers take note, Tuesday Opti and laser races are being moved to Thursday 6/18 for this week.
Due to this change, Thursday night Flying Scot races will not take place.
The Fyr Ball Regatta will be held on Saturday, June 19th. Please use this link to review the race documents:

The O’Rourke’s will host this fun evening on the dock. Join other EYC families for an alfresco dinner to kick out the winter witch! Burgers, brats and hot dogs will be provided. Please bring a side dish to share with many and your own beverages.

Calling all Beginner, Intermediate Sailors and Powerboat Skills Students!
You’re up next week!! The EYC Staff are ready for you. Parents of children enrolled in Session B1,
please check your emails for information from our education committee for everything you need to know for your sailing student.
There is ONE spot remaining for the beginner class and 4 spots open for the intermediate.
The powerboat skills class is sold out.
Classes for the remaining sessions are booking up, so don’t delay in signing up for sailing this summer. You snooze, you lose!

EYC Junior Activities 2021, Wednesday Nights 6:00PM -7:30PM
Mark your calendars! Sign-ups are in the clubhouse and kids aged 8-18 years are welcome. Students and family of members can attend. Younger children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Activities are led by our EYC staff.

Can you feel the anticipation?? The snow and ice on Eagle Harbor is melting and we are excited about a full summer of activities at the EYC. The 2021 Calendar of events, lessons and racing has been announced! Our season kicks off with the club opening during Memorial Day weekend and runs through the end of September. Our “Flagship” event, the 116th Ephraim Regatta, will begin August 7th. EYC Directory Hacks
When you renew your membership, please take the time to check all of your personal information to make sure everything is entered correctly, for yourself and your family members. We would also greatly appreciate it if you would take the time to have your entry match the format detailed below. This will ensure all entries are uniform and formatted properly for the printer. While this will be a little inconvenient right now, it will save the membership/directory volunteers hours in correcting the formatting later, which they would be forever grateful!
Here is what we’re looking for:
- Phone numbers with area code in parenthetical format with a space and number with dashes, e.g.(920) 854-7107
- Addresses with the direction abbreviated and thoroughfares spelled out, e.g. 10071 N. Water Street
- States abbreviated in caps, e.g. WI
- Only first letter caps, as in the above address, not 10071 N. WATER STREET; same with emails.
- Post office boxes as P.O. Box (no space, just periods, between the first 2 letters, and a space after the second period)
- If you have a spouse, make sure the Mailing Address name lists you both properly.
- Delete duplicate emails for you and your spouse if they are not different, only the primary needs to have an email; same for phone numbers.
